Position Overview
The Field Director / Indigenous Tribal Liaison Director will lead statewide civic engagement and community outreach efforts with a primary focus on Northern Arizona Tribal communities, particularly Navajo Nation communities. This position is responsible for overseeing field operations, supervising canvassing staff, coordinating culturally responsive outreach strategies, and building long-term relationships with Tribal leaders and Indigenous communities.
This role is strictly non-partisan and grounded in community engagement, civic participation, relationship-building, leadership development, and equitable access to resources and information.
The ideal candidate is a strong organizer, communicator, and team leader with experience working within Indigenous communities and managing field or outreach operations.*Fluency in Navajo (Diné Bizaad) and/or Hopi language is highly valued for this role due to the importance of culturally grounded community engagement and communication within Tribal communities across Northern Arizona.
Core Responsibilities
Indigenous & Tribal Community Engagement
Serve as the organization’s primary liaison to Indigenous and Tribal communities across Northern Arizona.
Build and maintain respectful, long-term relationships with Tribal leaders, chapter houses, elders, local organizations, and community stakeholders.
Lead outreach efforts focused on Navajo Nation communities using culturally responsive and community-centered engagement practices.
Attend community meetings, forums, chapter events, and local gatherings to strengthen organizational partnerships and trust.
Ensure outreach and engagement efforts reflect respect for Tribal sovereignty, traditions, and local priorities.
Field Operations & Canvassing Management
Develop and oversee strategic field outreach plans and community engagement programs.
Recruit, train, supervise, and support canvassers, outreach staff, volunteers, and field coordinators.
Coordinate canvassing operations, direct community outreach efforts, and public engagement activities throughout Arizona.
Manage field schedules, logistics, staff deployment, and outreach goals.
Ensure all field operations are conducted professionally, respectfully, safely, and in compliance with non-partisan nonprofit guidelines.
Community Outreach & Civic Engagement
Expand civic participation opportunities through education, outreach, and relationship-building efforts.
Support community engagement initiatives that increase awareness of available resources, programs, services, and participation opportunities.
Help remove barriers to engagement for rural, Tribal, and historically underrepresented communities.
Assist in developing culturally appropriate outreach materials and messaging strategies.
Leadership & Coordination
Serve as a communication bridge between organizational leadership, field staff, and community stakeholders.
Coordinate field trainings, outreach events, workshops, and volunteer activities.
Monitor outreach progress, field metrics, and engagement benchmarks.
Prepare regular reports and updates on field activities, community engagement outcomes, and operational needs.
Supervise both remote and in-person outreach staff as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in community organizing, field operations, outreach coordination, or civic engagement work preferred.
Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous, Tribal, rural, or historically underrepresented communities.
Strong understanding of Northern Arizona communities and Navajo Nation community dynamics preferred.
Experience supervising teams, volunteers, canvassers, or outreach staff.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in fast-paced environments.
Ability to travel frequently throughout Northern Arizona and rural communities.
Commitment to non-partisan civic engagement and equitable community outreach.
Navajo or Hopi language proficiency preferred but not required.
